Out & About On The Red Carpet at the 3rd annual Purple Gala Supporting Mothers Helping Mothers

Celebrating the Power of Purple: A Night of Community Support

Last night, the vibrant energy of Lakewood Ranch was palpable as the community gathered for the third annual Power of Purple Gala, an event dedicated to supporting the incredible work of Mothers Helping Mothers. With the night illuminated by the color purple, attendees came together to celebrate the strength and resilience of mothers in need.

As we stepped onto the red carpet, we were greeted by familiar faces and new friends alike. Among them was Madlin, the founder of Mothers Helping Mothers, who shared the inspiring journey of how this organization came to be. Reflecting on its grassroots beginnings, she likened it to the story of “Stone Soup,” where a community comes together to contribute what they can. From humble donations of sheets and towels to a fully-fledged support system for families, the growth of Mothers Helping Mothers has been nothing short of remarkable.

Madlin’s passion for helping others is deeply personal; she was once a client of the organization herself. Eleven years ago, she found herself in need, and now, she dedicates her life to giving back. With her family by her side, they mobilize resources to assist families in crisis, ensuring that no mother feels alone in her struggles. “We bring the store to them,” she said, highlighting their commitment to providing essential supplies directly to those in need.

Joining Madlin was Sher, the executive director of Mothers Helping Mothers, who spoke about the organization’s 35-year legacy of service in the Sarasota and Manatee communities. The Power of Purple Gala is not just a fundraiser; it’s a celebration of what can be achieved when a community unites for a common cause. Sher explained that the color purple symbolizes the blending of pink and blue, representing the coming together of diverse individuals to support one another.

For those who couldn’t make it to the gala, there’s still a chance to get involved. Sher announced an upcoming event at St. Lee Meyer’s Smokehouse, featuring a kids’ rock concert, live activities, and a silent auction. It’s an opportunity for families to enjoy great barbecue while supporting a worthy cause.

Mothers Helping Mothers continues to thrive, serving over 3,200 families and impacting more than 6,000 children in 2024 alone. The organization provides essential resources, including diapers, clothing, and educational materials, to help families overcome barriers and thrive.

As the night unfolded, it was clear that the spirit of community was alive and well. The laughter, the dancing, and the heartfelt stories shared reminded everyone present that together, we can make a difference.
